So, here I am, In Amsterdam being a dad. Holy cow! What a surreal and amazing time. Our little boy Monte arrived in this world in late August and all is well. Carice came through it beautifully and so we’re now just taking everything moment by moment.
This is extremely personal of course and so I hope you respect that I keep this experience to our selves.
Just know though that we’re happy, Monte’s well and there’s love in the room we’ve never known before.
Anyway…….The months went by and I had to go back to work. Stephan Elliot had called some time ago asking if I wanted to be in his hilarious 70’s caper Flammable Children. Hard to say ‘no’ to Steph of course, not that I would want to, the script is brilliant and full of heart. The idea of teaming up with him again is very appealing to me. I knew Kylie had been asked as well and in the end it transpired that she and I would get to play the ridiculous husband and wife pair Keith and Kaye Hall with their 5 rowdy children. Perfect timing for me to be ‘playing’ a Dad.
Also a little coincidental that the last film I did before Monte was born was Alien Covenant – Think about it…..
Flammable Children(since re named Swinging Safari) brought me back to Australia, the Gold Coast to be specific and it was a hoot. I got to have crazy bleached blonde hair and mo, plus the ‘comedy bulge’ Steph insisted on. Aside from the absolute joy of being reunited with dear Kylie I also got to work with my lovely friend Asher Keddie, as well as Jeremy Simms, Julian McMahon, Radha Mitchell and a fantastic bunch of kids. It was mental but wonderful.
I was, however missing my own divine child. Thankfully He and Carice have popped out to Oz to spend the summer with me. It’s the perfect way to finish off the year. Seeing my sister Tracy meet Monte for the first time was priceless. She’s in love with him and I think the feeling is mutual
My Mum met Monte too. We visited her in her nursing home and whilst sitting there, unsure of whom we were, and stroking Monte’s foot she said “I’ve always loved cats”
Which is true actually………
2016 - What a year ! xxxxx
